Just around the corner…….

Many states do not require bike and motorcycle helmets to ride recreational. But when riding or participating in a sport it is a necessity. Why is that? Do people feel it’s not important to wear riding down the street to the store really quick? There are many that own and ride bikes; however in the state of Colorado the only requirements is anyone eighteen and younger and those that are passengers have to wear a helmet. So because the driver of the bike (the one on the bike all the time), he doesn’t need a helmet, even if going to the store around the corner? Now the manufactures may impose a restriction but if the law says its okay, does it really matter? The Half Helmets seem to be more popular because they are like a bicycle helmet and don’t cover the whole face. Modular Helmets a definite because of the danger in the sport. In Love v. Bell, 1970, 465 P.2d 118, 171 Colo. 27. , the courts decided wearing a helmet was unnecessary because it affected the rider’s freedom to ride. I am sill bothered that the courts think it’s an “interference” with the enjoyment of riding, even if just going around the corner to the store)…..
